The other day I was speaking with a good friend that likes to chide me about my EDC. You see he and I live in a very nice city that has a low crime rate. It is his opinion that any preparation for a potential crime is a waste of energy. My carrying a gun everyday is not something he finds offensive but it is something he thinks is ridiculous and often makes jokes about.
One thing he joked about the other day is me “strapping” as he likes to call it when shoveling snow. As always I reminded him that if I knew something bad was going to happen I would not put myself in a situation. However I always come prepared incase something happens. His reply is who would shoot at you when you’re shoveling snow in your neighborhood.
While I don’t live in Flint this story goes to show him and others there is no such thing as minding your own business when others want to create trouble.
FLINT, MI — A man said he was shoveling snow when he was shot in the left thigh and left little finger, according to a police report.
He was shoveling around 4:30 p.m. Sunday at a home on North Stevenson Street near Woodbridge Street when he suffered the gunshot wounds. He said he did not know who shot him.
He was taken to the hospital where he was listed in good condition. There was no other information included in the report.
MLive is usually pretty good about its articles. The fact that no information on the age of the person shot or who he maybe was a bit surprising. We have no idea of if this was a random act of violence, gang initiation or a specific response to an event. What we do know is that just going to the bank, grocery store or dollar store in the last year have all be proven time again to not be as safe as we once thought.
Every Day Carry is not about fear, bravado or any of the other garbage stereotypes the media tries to put out there. It is about doing what you have to ensure the safety of those you care about. Our new Chief of Police in Detroit gets it.[embedplusvideo height=”470″ width=”618″ editlink=”http://bit.ly/K6BKIi” standard=”http://www.youtube.com/v/SoaPYxcJWO4?fs=1″ vars=”ytid=SoaPYxcJWO4&width=618&height=470&start=&stop=&rs=w&hd=0&autoplay=0&react=1&chapters=¬es=” id=”ep4369″ /]
